ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਤਵਨ ਲੌਡਿਯਹਿ ਸਾਹੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਮਾਰੀ ਜੌ ਰਿਸਿ ਖਾਇ ॥ ਕਿਯ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਤਿਨ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਿਯਨ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੋ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁਨਾਇ ॥੧॥

Sri Jagatjot Mati was very angry (ਰਿਸਿ) at her Daasi/Servant (ਲੌਡਿਯਹਿ), she, the wife of the banker (ਸਾਹੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ) gave her a scolding, gave her a beating because of the ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ that she played. Remember, in the 9th charitar, the daasi told on her and the King to the banker.

Also, remember, that, these charitars are all stories for that the advisors are telling the King as means of decision making of what to do with his son (refer to 1st + 2nd Charitars), this is why Mahraaj has written ਸੋ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁਨਾਇ

ਚੌਪਈ ॥

ਚੋਟਨ ਲਗੇ ਰੋਹ ਮਨ ਆਨੋ ॥ ਜਾਇ ਸੈਯਦ ਸੋ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਯਰਾਨੋ ॥

Due to being scolded, the daasi becomes more angry, she doesn’t just sit back and take the scolding with humility. Like fire, the more you feed fire, it will grow more, with the daasi her name is ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਾ, (the creativity of play) she is just going to grow and become out of control, ਰੋਹ ਮਨ ਆਨੋ, more anger comes into the mind. So then, ਜਾਇ ਸੈਯਦ ਸੋ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਯਰਾਨੋ, she then makes a friend with a ਸੈਯਦ - respected person in the Islamic community, who holds the biggest status.

The daasi realises that she is just a mere servant, by becoming friends with the ਸੈਯਦ by becoming the friend of someone who has power, she immediately has found a way to climb up the ladder of the status quo, socially, and financially in Lahore in that time.

ਨਿਤ ਤਿਹ ਅਪਨੇ ਸਦਨ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ॥

She tries to create this friendship with him by calling him over to his house every single day (ਨਿਤ).

ਸਾਹੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਕੋ ਦਰਬੁ ਲੁਟਾਵੈ ॥੨॥

Then, the ਸੈਯਦ comes under the scheme of chittarkala. She wants revenge on Sri Jagjot Mati for scolding her, and revenge on the King for rejecting her. She is first having Sri Jagjot Mati feeling comfortable with the ਸੈਯਦ, as she is living within the confines of her house as her servant. Whilst this happening, the King comes everyday too, and the ਸੈਯਦ gives money to Sri Jagjot Mati (ਦਰਬੁ ਲੁਟਾਵੈ). The presence of money is affecting Banker’s wife’s mind, making her feel more comfortable with the ਸੈਯਦ. Now, the path of what is right, and ਧਰਮ, is out of reach because she keeps on doing ਪਾਪ and is entrapped in the cycle of paap, if we give an inch to ਮਾਯਾ to ਕਲਯੁਗ, they take a whole yard - eventually leading to a dark zone. This is the dark zone that ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਗਜੋਤ ਮਤੀ is in, once you’re in this zone, one cannot stop craving, money, maya, and other worldy goods.

ਸਾਹੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਕੀ ਖਾਟ ਪਰ ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਤਾਹਿ ਸਵਾਇ ॥

One day, on the bed (ਖਾਟ) of ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਗਜੋਤ ਮਤੀ (ਸਾਹੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ), she has the ਸੈਯਦ go to sleep ontop of the bed, ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਤਾਹਿ ਸਵਾਇ.
